The Bed of Procrustes is full of short, clever sayings that make you think. Nassim Nicholas Taleb talks about life in a way that makes you think twice about your beliefs. It means we should be careful about ideas that seem okay because they might be wrong. The book is about how life is full of surprises and how people often make mistakes. Each saying makes you think more deeply if you take the time to really consider it. You can read it again and again, and each time you might understand something new. Here are some quotes from the book that I really like to share: "In science you need to understand the world; in business you need others to misunderstand it." "The best revenge on a liar is to convince him that you believe what he said." "If you want people to read, tell them it is overrated." "It's much harder to write a book review for a book you've read than for a book you haven't read." "There are two types of people: those who try to win and those who try to win arguments. They are never the same." There are more statements in this book waiting to be discovered and shared.

This book was written by wealthy entrepreneur Felix Dennis, who passed away in 2014. He aimed to create what he called an "anti-self-help" book to encourage us to work hard and become rich. Some of his tips: Own Things: Wealth comes from owning a large share of your business. Take Risks: Calculated risks are essential for getting rich. Do the Work: Good ideas are easy, but doing the work makes you successful. Don’t Borrow: Stay away from debt so you can grab opportunities. Let Others Help: Trust others to do things, but keep an eye on them. Make Sacrifices: Getting rich takes a lot of time and effort, and you might have to give up some personal things. Believe in Yourself: Confidence is key to taking risks and pushing forward. My hint

A super smart guy named Robert Cialdini studied how to manipulate and persuade people. They are tricking people into saying "yes" without them even knowing it! There are 7 magic tricks: Reciprocity: If someone gives you a present, you feel like you owe them one. Commitment and Consistency: Once you promise something, you will stick to it, even if it’s painful. Social Proof: If everyone else is doing it, it must be good. Liking: We normally say "yes" to people we like. Authority: We trust people in uniforms or with hierarchy titles and ranks. Scarcity: We want things more if they’re hard to get. This book is recommended by Goodreads. It has many ideas on how to live. The answers are different because it depends on what you want in life. Life is about exploring, not finding a perfect answer. Some ideas are common, but there's no right way to live. The important thing is to find what works for you and stay flexible as things change. Here are some of his tips from the book as follows: "Offer products, not a personal service, so your business can run without you." "Silence is the only way to hear quiet wisdom." "Places don't make emotion. You do." "Today's discomfort brings future rewards." Most of my reviews are just my way of making sure I remember my advice.

I would say that life is all about negotiation. Chris Voss, a former FBI hostage negotiator, offers several key pieces of advice for effective negotiation: Empathy: Understand and acknowledge the emotions and perspectives of the other party. Active Listening: Pay close attention to what the other party is saying to gather valuable information. Mirroring: Repeat the last few words the other person has said to build rapport and encourage them to elaborate. Labelling Emotion: Identify and vocalize the emotions of the other party to make them feel heard and understood. Calibrated Questions: Ask open-ended questions that begin with "how" or "what" to encourage deeper conversation and insight. Beware of "Yes": Be cautious of simply getting a "yes" response, as it may not always mean true agreement or commitment. Use Silence: After making a point or asking a question, use silence to prompt the other party to respond more fully. I personally like his approach of using the Late-Night FM DJ Voice: employing a calm, soothing tone to create a sense of calm and control during negotiations. "That's Right!": Aim to get the other party to say "That's right!" which indicates they feel understood and validated. A long-winded book overflowing with examples.

This book presents a hopeful view of human progress and the future of our species. Humans have consistently improved their lives despite facing obstacles like wars, diseases, and natural disasters. Human prosperity is largely driven by the ability to exchange goods, services, and ideas. The author argues that the progress of agriculture, government, and energy are the turning points of humanity. Technology and innovation can help us find solutions to problems like climate change and resource depletion. The author presents a hopeful view of human progress, emphasizing the importance of cooperation, innovation, and the exchange of ideas in overcoming challenges and improving the quality of life for people around the world. Those interested in science, economics, and history (think Adam Smith, Charles Darwin) would find this book engaging. The book goes into more detail with historical examples and interesting facts. "The idea for plastic came from photographic chemistry." "The camera pill is an idea that came from a conversation between a gastroenterologist and a guided-missile designer." "In the Vienna exhibition, workmen accidentally connect a reserve dynamo with electricity and it begins to spin all by itself, in effect it becomes a motor."

I rated this book 3.5 stars. I've read his books "Deep Work" and "Digital Minimalism". In fact, when you slow down, the results of slow productivity are effective. Slow productivity suggests three core principles: Do Fewer Things: Instead of trying to do everything, prioritize and focus on a small number of truly meaningful tasks. Work at a Natural Pace: Design your work to accommodate your own rhythms and energy levels, not rigid external demands. Obsess Over Quality: Shift your focus from quantity to quality. Prioritize producing excellent work.

In this book, I gleaned various insights, including WD-40, "I'll be back," 24 Hours, Amor Fati, Haruki Murakami, and more. The seven useful tools outlined are: 1. Establish a clear vision. 2. Think big. 3. Embrace hard work. 4. Foster effective communication. 5. Cultivate resilience in problem-solving. 6. Remain open-minded and attentive. 7. Commit to social responsibility. Recall the central message of "Be Useful" by integrating these seven tools into our lives and actively pursuing our dreams.

This book shows us how to become Supercommunicators. Supercommunicators are individuals who consistently excel at conveying their ideas and connecting with others. We should ask ourselves 3 important questions in most of the conversations: 1. What's this really about? 2. How do we feel? 3. Who are we? Specific techniques and approaches are discovered, offering practical strategies to improve communication. This book is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to enhance their communication skills. I need Daniel Kahneman's System 2 thinking to digest this book.

I agree that feeling good is vital for us to move on. The book shows how to energise, unblock and sustain. We can build and maintain our energy levels through activities like sleep, exercise, and play. We can identify and overcome obstacles that prevent you from being productive, such as distractions and procrastination. We can also develop sustainable habits and routines that help you stay on track and motivated over the long term. 'I hated every minute of training, but I said, "Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."' quoted by Muhammad Ali.

A must-read for anyone interested in electronics, economics and politics. Chris Miller explains how tiny semiconductors, or microchips, have become essential for everything from our mobile phones to missiles and satellites. When a country dominates the chip industry, it gains significant influence in the world's technology, economy, and military. Companies are constantly pushing the boundaries to develop faster, more efficient, and smaller chips. The book explores the competition between the US, the Soviet Union, and China for control of this crucial technology, with political and economic implications. It also explains the history of the transistor, chipset, integrated circuit, and semiconductor.

I want to recommend this self-help book to my friends because I am actively practicing the habits, and they are guiding me toward a better life. Instead of quick-fix solutions, Stephen Covey emphasizes sustainable, long-term growth, encouraging you to work from the inside out. 1. Be Proactive: Take responsibility for your actions and focus on what you can control. 2. Begin with the End in Mind: Define clear goals and outcomes before starting any task. 3. Put First Things First: Prioritize important tasks over urgent but less meaningful ones. 4. Think Win-Win: Aim for mutually beneficial solutions in your interactions and relationships. 5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood: Listen empathically before expressing your views. 6. Synergize: Collaborate effectively by leveraging others' strengths for better results. 7. Sharpen the Saw: Continuously renew yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I am reviewing this book to help me remember its key lessons and refer to them from time to time.
