The Summer of Yes

Rate this book
A near-death experience catapults workaholic junior editor Kelsey Worthington into changing her life--one yes at a time.

Kelsey Worthington always dreamed of being a writer, but she's settled into a routine of helping other people tell their stories in her job as a junior editor. She doesn't go outside of her comfort zone. Her relationships are safe. Her job is secure. Her existence is stable. And she's great with that.

And then, the accident.

While she's in the hospital overnight, she meets an older woman named Georgina Tate--a glass-ceiling-shattering, wildly successful businesswoman. Georgina sacrificed everything to become the woman she is today, but now, with a pair of failing kidneys and only a handful of months left to live, Georgina is forced to come face-to-face with her regrets. Kelsey is forced to reckon with her own list of "things I'll do someday," and she starts to ask a simple but life-changing What if I said yes to all the things I normally say no to? And The Yes Plan is born.

It takes some convincing, but Georgina finally agrees to go along with Kelsey on her Summer of Yes adventures. The two of them set off to see what might be out there waiting for them if they simply open themselves up to it. Together, they say yes to whatever comes their way--a whole day being tourists in their own New York City, dinner with strangers, a convertible that is far from practical but so much fun. But when Kelsey springs a surprise visit to Georgina's son Hayden and Georgina's ex-husband (who is not so much of an ex), the older woman is less than thrilled. But this is where the true journey begins.

Two stories of love, forgiveness, regret, romance, and finding a way to live a fearless life intertwine as these two women make an indelible impression on each other. And it all starts with a simple "yes."

3.65!

The book follows two characters Kelsey and Georgina both meet in a hospital after a NDE. Kelsey has just been in a car accident and Georgina was there for her dialysis. Kelsey during this whole encounter realizes how she is wasting her life on things that do not matter to her and asks Georgina who's facing the same problems to go on a summer of yes, its basically a trip where they would say yes to everything that is morally right. Now, reading this was super interesting because the way its put is very interesting but I feel like somewhere along the ways I felt so lost but at other times it was really an enjoyable experience.

The pacing was slow at the star because the part that took Kelsey to convince a very stubborn Georgina was taking long but when it did progress I saw myself liking it. I feel like the only thing that were making this story stand was its characters. The writing was fun too, I had almost no complaints with the style but the plot and the romance imo failed to deliver.

I liked the point of views of both the characters and I felt like they were the strong parts of this book because those 3 stars are only for this. Courtney made the characters so rich and flawed that I liked reading about them and their struggles made them feel so realistic. I would say I understood where Kelsey was coming from but she had no right to meddle in Georgina's life the way she did and for Georgina I felt at times she could be too much but I really appreciated how she tried to be strong but was breaking apart from within and I just liked the flow that these two character had with each other, it made it enjoyable to read.

The plot was mild overall, it didn't really grip me. The romance I feel like could have been developed more and that it got very less time which made it less impactful, I really liked the idea for the way she presented it and the love interests themselves were really nice but we just did not have enough time and a integral part of the story was linked to it so I think if it got more time and was developed better this would definitely have been 4 stars or above.

Overall, an enjoyable read that I would recommend FOR people wanting character driven books.

The Book Review Crew Blog

This book was slow to start, it felt like nothing really happened in the first 45% of it. And even when it did get interesting it became very repetitive. I was hoping for an adventure of two women with lots of regrets and what I got was two women who have unrealistic romances. It was too sickly sweet and cheesy for my tastes and I wish the romantic relationships were built up to a little more... They felt very rushed.

Our main characters are at a crossroads in their lives. Kelsey was hit by a car and Georgina is very ill. I did like that Kelsey learned to love herself and got some confidence in her abilities along the way. She takes a chance on herself and learns to have some fun. Georgina also learns to have some fun but also to let love in because she deserves it. Both women are pretty work-orientated and realize they must put themselves and their friends and family first.

The romance parts felt very shallow to me, it was insta love in one case and one hundred percent forgive and forget in another. I found both really hard to believe. Maybe I am a cynic? The whole plot is very predictable and the health issues didn't fly with me. I have been hit by a car and more than seven years later I am still suffering the effects of it. The ladies met in the hospital and Georgia's outcome was just too convenient. There weren't enough troubles or issues or drama for me. The whole thing was just saccharine and it gave me a toothache.

I did like that we get both character's points of view in differing chapters. They are two women who have a lot in common despite being decades apart in age. I didn't like how much Kelsey butted into Georiga's life uninvited. She was really naive but smarmy at the same time. She is a complete stranger to this family and doing what she did was not okay no matter how you look at it.

A lot of people have loved this book and this author. I don't think she is for me. I like happy ever afters as much as the next person but I like things to happen along the way to getting there.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance Readers Copy.

0.75⭐️ easiest one star ever!! 😞 after this, the word "yes" doesn't even feel like a word anymore

I want to swear so bad in this review. Jesus f*cking Christ, Kelsey stfu so other characters can get a word in!!!!!!! Kelsey will not stfu, she definitely be in everyone's business, can not decide if she's a push over or is forcing everyone to live by her new found will to explore life after an accident.

So f*king dramatic!! she got hit on a sidewalk and was literally only in the hospital for less than 48 hours then decides to make changes in her life by going on a road trip in the city of New York City. guys, she lives in New York City!! she drags an older rich woman who shared a hospital room with her on this trip, poor woman is on dialysis btw and tries to manipulate and masterplan this woman's reunion with her family 🙄🙄 after running her mouth about the woman private and health issues even when she had signed an NDA, like you are a complete stranger Kelsey, get a grip!!

fine, you want to quit your job and u-turn your life and "live more"? do it!! why do you have to drag your busy bestie who is a doctor out of the office on a work day to go to zoo. THE ZOO??? REALLY???? then I find out she forgot she was supposed to attend this besties birthday party and bring the cake, few weeks earlier because she was busy working 😒😒 what sort of groundbreaking work is this?? A f*cking editor.

And no, Kelsey is not saying yes to her bucket list of very adventurous things!! she is saying yes to forcing this woman she just met to write a memoir and reunite with her family so she can edit said memoir and have a go at the woman's son, yes to attending nice, sweet family dinners with her bestfriend and ordering an egg sandwich because you see she was a very healthy gym girly and workaholic and always said no to carbs 😣 girl- gtfoh

All that is on her say yes list in summary is to be the biggest pick me and make people do things that clearly make them very uncomfortable!!

Kelsey & Georgina meet when they’re both in the hospital together.

It was a little slow to start with Kelsey trying her darnedest to convince Georgina to go along with her plan. The plan is to start living life to the fullest without regrets. To say yes to things she ordinarily would say no to because she was too busy trying to get ahead at work. It just so happens that Georgina has the same similarities in her life, even if she’s too stubborn to admit it.

The characters were perfect. The banter was perfect. The journey to forgiveness was perfect. There is a budding romance to root for, but I wouldn’t say it’s a main plot point. Hayden, Georgina's son, was the sweetest and for sure book boyfriend material.

Overall, a lovely book that makes you think ~ if you’re working to live are you really fully living? As I am in my last summer with my only daughter before she graduates I feel like this will be my summer of yes, as well, because I certainly don’t want to look back on my life and have any regrets at all. Life is precious and you never know when your last day living it will be. So let's live it to the fullest!

I was able to listen to an audio copy as well.
Narration notes:
I think both narrators sounded perfectly aged and did a nice job.

The Summer of Yes was my first Courtney Walsh novel and I have to stress it will definitely not be my last. This book provided a non stop engaging and imaginative story line that had me hooked from page one.

The book begins with Kelsey an overworked, under appreciated book editor. Kelsey in her ever under appreciated state is volen-told to get to Starbucks with her boss’s coffee order. En route back to the office Kelsey gets mowed down by a rogue car. She wakes up in the hospital with a very fragmented memory of what landed her there. Frantic to get back to her work but told she’s very lucky to be alive she’s required to stay in the hospital and wait to be cleared. The then unoccupied and last neighbouring hospital bed is taken by a very regal and formidable woman Kelsey recognizes as Georgina Tate a well known business mogul. After listening to Georgina for a short period of time Kelsey can see some parallels between herself and the older woman. Georgina is dismissive of Kelsey but one question seems to break through her tough exterior. Was her singular focus on her job really worth it? Through her near death experience and her time with Georgina Kelsey decides that she needs to change her life and start saying Yes. Yes to the invitations that she’s been declining and just Yes to living her life again.

This work was truly a delight to behold. I enjoyed the dynamic and witty push and pull between Kelsey and Georgina and their character development was so exquisitely crafted. I love to see characters grow into their most authentic selves and work for the life they want. Life gets busy and sometimes we get in our own way. The Summer of Yes makes me want to say Yes to everything that I have been saying no to. Courtney Walsh’s The Summer of Yes was a pure delight to experience.

What a cute, bright cover!! The Summer of Yes is about 2 women who always say no to everything pairing up together for a summer of yes! I was introduced to Courtney Walsh's books a couple months ago and read 2 of them that I loved. I was super excited to read this new one! The Summer of Yes didn't work quite as well for me as those other 2 but it's still a good book. This is a light-hearted and easy summer read. I didn't super connect with the storyline. Maybe because the other 2 I read were romances and while this one had romance, it was more about Georgina & Kelsey and their relationship. The storyline was a bit too far-fetched for my personal liking. This one could work for you if you're looking for a quick summer read.

Thank you NetGalley, and Thomas Nelson Fiction, for a copy in return for my honest review.

We took our Winnebago back out on the road yesterday. I could not have chosen a better read for our trip. This inspiring new release is full of heart, humor, with a side of introspection. Early in the book, Kelsey's mom talks to her about "disruptors." An unforeseen occurrence in your life can disrupt for good. In this book we see how both characters become catalysts for change in each other's lives. Is there a disruptor in your life that you have been resisting?

Have you been saying "No" and playing it safe? Kelsey is 32 and working as an editor. She has been focusing on her career and missing out on life. She ends up in the hospital after getting hit by a car. Her roommate turns out to be THE Georgina Tate, a famous cosmetic magnate. The two of them will become the cleanest version of Thelma and Louise that you have ever seen with a blue convertible (minus the tragic ending.) They are saying "Yes" to a road trip and it is about more than the destination. Courtney Walsh gives us their story from both perspectives. The audio book is narrated by Tanya Eby and Cathi Colas is just right. Got a road trip planned this summer? Take this book along.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson, HarperCollins Christian Publishing, and NetGalley for both an audio and digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This turned out to be absolutely lovely!

I didn't really relate to the characters at first, so it took me while to get into the story.
Once Kelsey met Hayden, I was sold.

The character development was incredible. Very very good.

No language, only kissing, and no faith content other than a mention or 2 about God.

Would recommend!

This is the first time I’ve read a book by Courtney Walsh and though it was slow paced in the beginning I did get drawn into the book. As the ending drew near I found myself shedding happy tears, which I don’t often do when I read a book. So I walk away from this book ready and willing to read more of this Authors books. I found it to be captivating, romantic, and a page turner. The main point was not to let your goals rob you of time spent with your loved ones. It’s not a bad thing to have goals but balance your time between work and family. Forgiveness was also an important aspect of this book. I appreciate that the book was clean read and I am pleased with the time I invested to read this novel.
When Georgina Tate and Kelsey Worthington become room mates during a hospital stay they find they seem to have much in common. Georgina is the older of the two. She is a very successful business woman in New York City. She has reached the top of her field and is very well known for her achievements. Kelsey is a 32 year old associate editor for a well known publisher. She is pouring all her time and energy into her career. She doesn’t date or have many friends. Mostly she just works. When she meets Georgina she can’t believe how fortunate she is to have this chance to get to know the legendary Matriarch of New York City. The two talk and Kelsey asks Georgina if all her sacrifices she made for her business was worth it. Georgina lost her husband and son because she was always too busy to spend time with them. The women get together for a Summer of yes so they might try some of the things they’ve always said no to because of their careers . Is it too late for these ladies to change the course of their lives?
I recommend this book to readers of Christian Fiction, Women’s Fiction and contemporary Romance.
This book is a standalone read. It is scheduled for release on 7/2/24.

The Summer of Yes was such a fun, cute, and heartwarming story. I'm not going to lie. The first 25-35% felt really slow for me. I struggled to get into the book, but I'm glad I kept going. I ended up enjoying it a lot.

This is a story of friendship. Of taking chances. Of saying yes. I liked reading about both Georgina and Kelsey.

Courtney Walsh has become an automatic read for me over the last few years. I love her writing style and her characters are fun and well developed. In The Summer of Yes, Kelsey gets hit in a freak car accident and wounds up in the hospital with Georgina, a famous woman who owns a cosmetic company. After realizing what a close call she had and the chance meeting with Georgina, a lonely and cold woman, Kelsey decides that their meeting was not an accident and is determined to make the most of her life by saying "yes" when she would normally say "no" and includes Georgiana in the summer of yes, including a road trip to the coast of North Carolina from NYC. I found I could relate to Kelsey saying no out of fear and how much of life is missed because of that fear. This is a fun, heartwarming, and uplifting story with redemption, forgiveness, reconciliation, love, romance, new beginnings and a wonderful ending.

The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh - 4.5 Stars
Rounding up to 5 on Goodreads. Will be an honorable mention as a fav of 2024.

Blog Post Here: https://bookloveramanda.blogspot.com/...

"Society lies to women when it says they can have it all, a family, career, success at home and success in the workplace. You can't. At least not all at the same time."

"Yes. It's risky to feel things. And it's risky to hope for good. And it's hard to say yes to the unknown. And it doesn't always result in wonderful memories. But that's what it means to be alive."

A story all about what really matters most in life and saying yes or no to the RIGHT things. I needed this book at such a time in my life when things are crazy as a busy working Mom to a special needs child. I am constantly busy, working, trying to DO IT ALL, when we can't. I find myself spending too much time on the things I don't need to be doing and not prioritizing what I should in life.

This story makes you realizes truly how short life is and how things could end in the blink of an eye. Take the vacation. Go on that road trip. Enjoy life with family, even in the hard. Take the chance and you never know what beauty may come from the ashes.

This book is a clean, women's fiction contemporary story. We have some romance but I was primarily invested in the friendship that develops between Kelsey and Georgina. Kelsey works all the time and is always busy. She gets hit by a car and ends up in the hospital next to Georgina, one of New York's successful business women. Georgina is dying from kidney failure, unless she can get a transplant. Georgina is a woman who spent most of her life working all the time, prioritizing her career success over her son and husband. She's been apart from them for 20+ years and now that she is dying, she is filled with regrets. Along comes Kelsey, who realizes from Georgina's story she is repeating many of the same mistakes in her 30s. She pushes Georgina and her to have a "SUMMER OF YES" - where they go on a trip and say yes to things that they normally wouldn't. To get out and enjoy life and see what they have been missing. What Georgina doesn't know is Kelsey has some plans up her sleeve to help Georgina reconcile with her son and husband after all these years. The story kicks off here.

I really related to the subject matter in this story as I mentioned. I felt a new perspective reading through this. I need to say no to things I always say yes to in my "people pleasing" self and start saying "yes" to what is most important to me in life and take risks where necessary. You never know where it could lead.

Now, it's important to go in this book knowing it's not meant to be a "Christian Fiction" book. It's meant to be a clean, secular fiction book in my mind. Do I think this book could have benefited from a few moments of gentle, everyday faith content and removing some of the things about the universe, fate and our main girl not knowing really where she stands with God? Absolutely. But do I think the overall message Courtney is sharing here is well needed in today's society, especially for us women who feel like we have to be everything for everybody else and "do all the things" -- ABSOLUTLEY!

As a special needs Mama, I needed many of these reminders regardless and I appreciate Courtney tackling this topic and writing a clean fiction story to represent it.

I am so glad I purchased this book for my summer reading vlog, full thoughts and reactions to come in a future reading vlog.

Gorgeous cover, right? Are you someone who tends to say “yes” often, or more “no” by default, maybe out of fear? Work-life balance has been on my agenda recently, and I’ve been successful with saying “no” more in that regard, which has been good and healthy, but I’ve been wondering if I’m now saying “no” too often to everything. Like, now my default answer is no? What about the good things I could be missing? That’s where The Summer of Yes comes in beautifully.

About The Summer of Yes: “A near-death experience catapults workaholic junior editor Kelsey Worthington into changing her life--one yes at a time.”

Kelsey dreams of being a writer, but “settles” for junior editor, as that has been easy. All her other choices have been on the safer side. Then, she’s in an accident with a hospital stay. While there, she meets Georgina, a risk taker with only a few months to live. Kelsey devises a “Yes Plan” to begin to saying yes to all the things she’d previously say no to, and she convinces Georgina to join her on some adventures. From there, they have a summer to remember.

I felt like Courtney knew one of my secrets when she had them swimming in the ocean. Am I alone in this?! I only swim in the ocean if I can see my feet, like in the Caribbean? I need clear water. Jaws and my dad being attacked by a shark as a teenager had me terrified, and I am not sure I can change that one. 😆 But there are certainly other things I can work on saying YES to, and I absolutely loved this book. I do have a lot of fear that’s not always rational. I have memories of fearfulness as a young child, so I started early. Overall, The Summer of Yes is as inspiring and feel-good as I hoped it would be and more. I loved Kelsey and Georgina and the side characters. It’s about the power of friendship and not holding ourselves back. What lovely and refreshing messaging I’m so grateful for.

I received a gifted copy.

the setup…
Kelsey Worthington is a junior editor for a publisher in New York. Her dream was to be a writer but she’s settled for the mediocre job of helping other people write their stories. But, her world is turned upside down when she walks out of a coffee shop and is hit by a car. When she awakes in the hospital, she finds her roommate to be the highly successful businesswoman she’s revered…Georgina Tate, the beauty industry mogul who’s crushed so many barriers and ceilings. While Kelsey is soon to be released, Georgina’s health is dire. Her kidneys are failing and because of her rare blood and tissue type, prospects of finding a donor are slim and she’s facing the end of her life. Kelsey looks at her own life and decides what if she starts saying “yes” to the things she fears and would normally turn down? The “summer of yes” is born as she drags the reluctant and extremely difficult Georgina into the plan.

the heart of the story…
I really liked and connected with Kelsey who’s consumed by work, letting her personal relationships take a secondary role in her life. It’s also clear how fear has driven a lot of her life decisions, as it’s done for Georgina who early in her career had to make a choice between her family and the business she built. I loved how these two opposites interacted after their rather serendipitous meeting in that hospital. They were good for each other and something about Kelsey inspired Georgina to let her in. Reconnecting with her estranged husband and son was a highlight of the story.

the narration…
I’m already a fan of Tanya Eby and she was ideal as Kelsey. I also enjoyed Cathi Colas as Georgina, capturing her sardonic tone perfectly.

the bottom line…
This is a story about how we let our fears prevent us from possibly achieving the dreams we really want, turning away from the paths that might lead to openings because it’s scary. It was beautifully illustrated through these two characters who on the surface couldn’t be more improbable as partners. It was life changing for both of them and thought provoking for me.

After a near-death experience, workaholic Kelsey decides to make some changes, starting with the decision to say yes more. Soon, she and new friend Georgina Tate, a successful older woman facing her own health crisis, depart on a road trip determined to have the Summer of a lifetime.

Courtney Walsh must put a little magic in each of the books she writes. They are always filled with joy and hope, and are charming to boot. The Summer of Yes encapsulates all of that “magic” and more. Although there are a few emotional moments, this book is not only uplifting, it is inspirational. If I take nothing from Kelsey and Georgina’s story, it will be to take the risk and have fun more.

Read if you like:
• strong MCs
• older characters
• female friendships
• road trips
• clean romance

"What if...just, what if...I've been given a second chance here? What if I'm waking up to where I am, and I don't like it?"

The Summer of Yes needs to be on every reader's "YES" list and rushed to the tippity top of their TBRs because this book is an "LC", you know, the life changing kind of book.

Also, it may be important to note that once you pick this book up you'll actually be saying a lot of "No's" to various things like: to-do lists, dinner requests, household chores, sleeping etc.

I love that this book had two storylines that intermixed. We have Kelsey's POV and we have Georgina's POV. Each make this story richer and more all-encompassing. These characters are so different from each other and yet parallel and compliment each other so well.

Overall, having both is an amazing gift from Courtney Walsh.

You'll also be introduced so some amazing side characters (cough-cough...mostly looking at you JP - if there was ever a spin-off for this character, I would be first in line to read it. Just sayin').

The struggles, the victories, the experiences and the romance are all BIG YES's in my opinion.

If you want a book that will entertain you as well as move you and expand your heart...this should be your next read!!!

This read is for sure a top read of the year and on my all-time favorites list!! I give it all of the stars, two thumbs up and if I could give it a million more of each, I'd do that too!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Content: near death experience, life threatening condition, estranged mother/husband/son relationship, mild innuendo, friendships, second chances, romance-kisses only.

Wow!! This book is one of those books you leave and feel like your life has changed, that it’s a women’s fiction book mixed with a self help book. It teaches you that life is short and tomorrow isn’t promised and to take a chance and say yes to things that scare you!

I’m the first to admit I’m so much like Kelsey or actually probably more like Georgina cause I can be grumpy sometimes but most of the time it’s me trying to protect myself from getting hurt just like Georgina. I let things that scare me stop me from doing them or things I think will make me look weird or like an idiot. No more it’s time to start saying yes to some things that may be scary to me or make me uncomfortable cause what is life if your not taking any chances and doing things you love with the people you love the most.

All that to say this impacted me so much and Thank you Courtney Walsh for writing this story! That authors note though absolutely made me sob! This is definitely my favorite book of the year and I know it’s one I won’t ever forget. Not to mention it’s the first one I felt the need to put tabs in!

2024 book of the SUMMER! WOW! What a ride.

This was my first Courtney Walsh book & it didn’t disappoint at all. In fact, I’ll probably go and read ALL her books now.

This story made me laugh, cry, laugh and again and cry. It was full of banter, love, a mean old lady and a determined MC. Kelsey's growth throughout the book was inspiring. I felt like I knew her personally. Georgina, the other main character, was my favorite-grumpy but wonderfully feisty.

The themes of forgiveness and grace were beautifully integrated.
Seriously, you’ll want to read this book when it comes out. You are gonna love it!

I was surprised that I did not give this 5 stars. I loved the beginning and was sure that this would be a favorite for the year. I have read two of Courtney Walshs' books previously, and they were both 5-star reads. I found The Summer of Yes somewhat problematic.

The Summer of Yes was labeled a clean, Christian fiction. While the story was clean, I found no faith aspects in the story (and it could've been filled with faith).

The story started well, with two women, both workaholics, struggling to connect to others in relationships outside their work. Work became their focus, and drive, and everything else was put out of the way. I loved the connection between Kelsey and Georgina, and their stories were written well. However, there was no depth in the storyline, which made the ending of the story lackluster. I thought that the love connection between Hayden and Kelsey rushed, almost an instant love story. Georgina had chosen a life of work and her business came first, so the grace offering from Hayden and Dylan was seriously unbelievable. The story ended well, but it was not believable. As a mother, I struggled with the offering from Hayden to Georgina which seemed too quick of a decision. Most mothers are selfless with their children, and I had a hard time believing that any mother would be fine with this decision.
I will read from Courtney Walsh again, but sadly, The Summer of Yes did not work for me.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for my copy of The Summer of Yes. All the opinions and thoughts are purely my own.

4.5/5

I have had Courtney Walsh on my list of authors to read for quite some time, and I'm really glad I finally stopped waiting and decided to read The Summer of Yes right away. I loved this book so much, and there was an excellent grumpy/sunshine quality between Georgina and Kelsey as they became unlikely friends. I loved that we got both of their viewpoints throughout the story and the romance that Kelsey has plus the second chance romance for Georgina were both extremely heartwarming. I feel like most people would benefit from saying yes more and as much as I hate it myself, this novel made me feel the need to get out of my comfort zone as well.

The audiobook was truly delightful, and I thought Tanya Eby & Cathi Colas both did a beautiful job with their narration. They brought Kelsey and Georgina to life in a perfect way and made me connect to the characters even further than I would have by simply reading. While Kelsey has to grow a bit to get there, both of these women had such great boss babe energy and there were a couple of moments that Georgina's words and actions gave me happy chills. If you are looking for something to put a smile on your face, make you feel all the feels, and give you that you-go-girl vibe, The Summer of Yes will do all that and more!

Narrator 5/5

This was my first Courtney Walsh book and I don’t know why! Loved her writing, this book stole my heart. It’s such a beautiful book. It starts with a woman Kelsey, who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident, and says “ I don’t have time for this”. How many women today, sadly have to say this? I feel with the rise of “girl power” and the feminist agenda being pushed so hard- this is a book that needs to be read.

The Summer of Yes makes the reader look and examine their life in a whole new way. It’s about overcoming fears, ones past, and a hard dose of forgiveness. Also, about finding joy in life and what makes one truly happy. I just loved how the author handled the whole family drama. So much grace was given . Kelsey and Georgina had such a devil wears Prada relationship, and I absolutely loved it. It was clean and refreshing. There are also hard emotional moments- but are always followed with laughter and joy. The romance was sweet and not forced- it felt so natural. Overall, this was an awesome summer read- one I will be thinking about for a while.

Highly recommend !

I have typed and re-typed this review multiple times, and none of the words feel adequate enough to express how much I truly loved this book and how much it impacted me.

Courtney Walsh is my soul author. She writes the stories my heart desires. From Christian fiction to clean rom coms to women's fiction, she hits it out of the park every single time. This is my 5th book by her, and, guys, I think this is my favorite book of all time.

Georgina and Kelsey were such fun characters to follow. I loved the sassiness of Georgina, and while her stubbornness was annoying at times, I resonate all to well with the notion that "old habits die hard" and shame is hard to overcome at times. And Kelsey. Her realization of where her life was going and her willingness to say yes to the things that set her soul on fire was inspiring.

And can we talk about Dylan for just a sec? I don't want to give too much away, but just know that the way that Dylan loved Georgina really hit me. I highlighted pages upon pages of how he responded to her and loved her. Friends, he loved her like Jesus loves us. No matter how far we stray, how much we mess up, or how little we think we deserve, Jesus isn't going anywhere. He is in constant pursuit of our hearts, and his love for us is everlasting.

I could probably write a book ABOUT this book and how much I loved it. There is so much to gush about. And there are so many great experiences wrapped around this book for me. I got to read another one of my favorite author's stories. I was able to buddy read and chat about it with three of my best friends. I resonated with the themes. And I truly feel like this is a book I can recommend to anyone.

So, if you've never picked up a Courtney Walsh book before, let this be your sign. And let this be your first.

Absolutely ADORED this book!!! Courtney Walsh knows what she's doing yall!! I love the realness in the story and how it felt very personal to the author. I am finding that I love literary fiction with a side of romance and this is just that! Highly recommend!! It is clean as far as sexual content and no cussing which I really appreciated.
Made me think deeply about my own life while also making me laugh out loud at the happenings in this book. JUST. SO. GOOD.

“Sometimes I wish I’d started my life with the wisdom and knowledge I have now that I’m nearing the end. I would’ve done so many things differently.”

It’s no secret that I love a feel-good story with life lessons mixed in. But I adore an age-gap friendship. There’s always so much to learn and love from these types of stories, and because I know Courtney Walsh won’t leave me sobbing, I had faith that we would have a happily ever after for the two female MCs, Kelsey and Georgina that I grew to love so much.

Read if you enjoy:
🫶🏼 Age gap friendship
🚗 Road trips
🥰 Found family
💛 Feel good moments
👌🏼 Wit & wisdom

I recommend reading The Summer of Yes if you’re looking for a pick-me-up that will remind you there’s still a whole lot of life left to live.

I have never given women's fiction a chance or even a second thought, because those types of stories don't interest me in any sort of way. But this cover was so beautiful, and I was like, how bad can it be? And oh my goodness, if you can't already tell by my 5 star rating, I absolutely loved every minute of this book!

The writing, the plot, the characters, the relationships, the romance. Perfection. It is filled with hope, love, forgiveness, saying yes, and second chances. The whole ‘Summer of Yes' was so eye opening and made me contemplate my own life. Am I doing what brings me joy? Are my relationships with family and friends strong? Am I getting out of my comfort zone, saying yes to things I normally wouldn't?

I didn't think we would be getting tons of romance, and I mean that isn't the main focus, but the romance that we did get was beautiful and tender, and I ate up every moment that Hayden and Kelsey were together. I even enjoyed Georgina's side of the story, which I thought I wouldn't. She was a cranky old woman, but when you get her POV, it gives you an empathetic understanding. And her silver fox? Yes please.

Putting the romance aside, the relationship between each character was just ugh, so sweet. Especially Georgina and Kelsey's relationship. I felt a deep connection to both women. And I truly think all women can relate to them, in their own way.

I just have to say, I never get emotional when I read. Ever. And I cried 3 times! I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster that’s for sure. My husband thought I was crazy. I was laughing one moment and crying the next. So I literally felt every emotion possible throughout this book. It was such a powerful, beautiful story that I am so glad I took a chance on, and I think y'all should too.

📝Synopsis 📝
Kelsey is a workaholic that ends up at the hospital after a near death experience. She ends up sharing a hospital room with non other than Georgina a well known and successful business woman. Kelsey proposes a deal to Georgina and they head off to a road trip that leads them to adventures and our story.

My thoughts 💭
This was such a great book about second chances. I laughed, cried, and laughed some more! This is definitely a book you can recommend for a beach read, road trip, and to just about anyone since it is a clean read (no spice). Two workaholics loose so much in life and get to turn wrongs into rights. I love how they both got to break their ways and say yes to more things that brings them happiness. This was such a heartwarming read, and it made me even reflect on my life too. Last but not least, I absolutely loved all the main characters.

Kelsey, like most do, always finds what she should do or be the perfect reason to say “no”. Waking up in the hospital next to a bitter and sarcastic Georgina after an accident forces Kelsey to face the fragility of life and the pursuit of what saying yes could mean.
I love so much when a book can be both full of entertainment and a perfect made-for-me message. I am the first to say no to a lot of things (except a good book or something fried with cheese). I laughed a lot during my read. Georgina stole the show a lot through her dry wit and sarcastic rejoinders. I loved the cast, I loved the love interests, I loved the setting(s), and, above all, I loved the push to say “yes” to things that could bring life more joy.
Thanks to the author for the traveling arc to share and pass around with some friends. All rights are my own.
