#1 New York Times bestselling author KAMI GARCIA (Beautiful Creatures) and artist GABRIEL PICOLO, the creative duo behind the New York Times bestselling TEEN TITANS graphic novel series, are back with a first look at a new Titan!
Kori Anders’ summer job at a ritzy Santa Monica beach club is fun, but she doesn't feel like she belongs there. She never breaks the rules, she doesn’t care about keeping up with the current trends, and she can’t be bothered rushing around to make an appearance at all the parties—in fact, Kori avoids rushing at all costs because of her Ehlers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis. What she does feel is an inexplicable draw to the stars.
Her older sister, Kira, on the other hand, is the most popular girl around. With the hottest clothes, an even hotter boyfriend (the Tate Fairweather), and a take-no-prisoners attitude, she’s Kori’s opposite in every way. Sadly, Kori doesn’t think Tate is a good fit for her sister, and nothing she says will convince Kira to break up with him.
The summer heats up when Tate’s uncle, Lynch Fairweather, CEO of a major pharmaceutical company, asks Kori and Kira to participate in a clinical trial designed to advance treatments for EDS. During treatment, Kori begins to discover some strange powers that she has never had before…and she might not be the only one.
Can Kori uncover the truth about her powers and find a way to persuade her sister to trust her before it’s too late?

cant wait for this book like Stafire and Raven are my fav characters in teen titans and I think cyborg should be the next book in this series so can’t wait! And I really wanna see them all meet together cause i love those kinda books with the characters meeting up and defeating the main villain
It’s becoming a bit of a tradition to be here moments after the announcement of a new instalment for this graphic novel series. And I’m happy to announce the jawline on this cover is, once again, sharp enough to cut me. Starfire is gorgeous here!
I’ll be honest, Starfire is right next to Cyborg on the list of Teen Titans I don’t really care much about, but the announcement of this graphic novel still excited me. If anything, it’ll definitely be a feast for the eyes like all of Picolo’s works are. But mostly it’s cool to see DC actually sticking with a single writer and illustrator and making a series because this is one of their only YA graphic novel series and definitely their most successful.
⭑⤷ WAIT A DAMN MINUTE, THAT'S IT? THE STORY ONLY JUST STARTED AND Y'ALL ENDED IT W/ A FREAKING CLIFF HANGER WTF?!!
GIRL IM SO UPSET RN AFTER WAITING FOR SO LONGGGGGGG😔😔😔
I still loved it though, starfire & robin are MY NO. 1'S💌 --- {pre-read review}:⭑.ᐟ ๋ ࣭ ⭑⤷ OMG SHE'S OUT NOW YESSSSS --- ISTG THIS BITCH CANT COME ANY FASTER NOV 5TH FEELS LIKE EONS AWAY
I love what the author did with Kori and Kira. They felt like young women going through college and had opposing personalities. I felt like I could relate to both sisters since they went from being best friends to being strangers. Kira wanted to be with her boyfriend and go out to party while Kori wanted to stay inside, look at the stars, or read her books. I liked how the author chose to go about their conflict. I hope Kira doesn't become a full-time villain as you can tell, she's seriously been manipulated by the boy she loves and sees people that she's admired hurting. Even her inferiority complex and jealousy issues felt real as I felt like most sisters have felt that between each other at least one time in their life.
I also feel for Kori. While I am the eldest sibling, Kori really tried to be different for her sister in order to fit into her lifestyle, and I felt sad not seeing Kira make the same effort with Kori's hobbies... Kori really tried looking out for her sister, and it seems like they only really had each other as their mom was practically non- existent.
My favorite part of the book had to be when Dick and Kori finally met. Hehehehehehe.... I felt like a school girl with a high school crush. Seeing them interact and meet was the CUTEST THING EVER! I hope to see their relationship develop even more in future books as the author really made both characters seem into each other which is really nice when you compare it to old comics or the old animated teen titans show.
However... as much as it pains me.... I will be knocking off some points because of how dirty the author chose to introduce cyborg... or Vic.... Bro didn't even get his own book... I hope the author will give him a proper solo book in the future, but they literally just slapped him into the book and said, "Here... be happy with these raggedy bread crumbs." LIKE NO... JUSTICE FOR MY BOI CYBORG.
Starfire is the fifth comic in the Teen Titans series.
This story is about Kori and Kira, two sisters who are just discovering their powers. I really enjoyed so much about this book. Them working at the beach club was fun. And seeing Kira manipulated by her boyfriend Tate and seeing how much Kori disliked him was interesting.
Unlike other readers I don't know much about the Teen Titans series. So I can't speak to whether the author did justice to the characters. However I have read all of the graphic novels in this series. And the character of Kori (Starfire) is probably my favorite. I loved that her Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is discussed. And I really enjoyed the relationship with her sister.
My least favorite part was to do with the creature. That just didn't interest me (although it was very short). I am excited that there will be another graphic novel as it was nice to see all of the teen titans together at the end.
A lot of new characters were introduced in this novel but I didn’t feel like the plot moved forward very much. I love the art in this series and this was a quick and entertaining read.
Starfire is the latest addition to Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo Teen Titan series and I loved every minute of it! This is hands down my favorite comic series! Every time I see the next one announced, I obsess over it until release day. The OG Teen Titans show was/is my favorite, so to see the story reimagined with such beautiful artwork warms my cynical heart. I will consume EVERYTHING that Gabriel Picolo creates, sight unseen. His Instagram has such special sneak peaks into the lives of our Titans that I want to crawl inside and live there! Has this issue just come out? Yes. Am I already anxiously awaiting the next installment? Obviously.
Thanks to DC Comics and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I have been waiting so long for this one and I absolutely loved this next book to the Teen Titan series! This book is focused on Starfire and her complicated relationship with her sister Kira (Blackfire). These two love each other, however, they have differences that continue to threaten their relationship. When Starfire learns that an organization she and her sister Kira agreed to help have been lying to them, she is forced to make a choice. She can either stick with her sister and continue with the experiments, or she can choose to take care of herself and help some new found friends. I related so much to Starfire who enjoyed being alone, but once she found people she fit in with you got to see her personality shine through! I could also relate to her complicated relationship with her sister. There was a touch of exploring an illness with Starfire that no one seemed to understand because they couldn't see it. And I loved that Kira would stand up for Starfire if someone tried to downplay Starfire's illness like it wasn't a big deal when it really was. What I was really waiting for was Starfire and Dick to finally meet and see how their chemistry would be and I was VERY pleased with how it's starting. I have high hopes that it will progress into a relationship in the next issue with the way it was going so well. The moment where Starfire and Dick were looking at the stars together felt like a throwback to their ferris wheel scene in the 2004 cartoon that made me feel so giddy! I love that even though they didn't meet until close to the end of the book there were special moments between that made them have such a strong instant connection that I am here for! I'm so happy with the way this turned out and I am quite sad that it's already over. I very much look forward to the final book in fall of 2025!
Teen Titans: Starfire is a solid intro to one of my favorite Teen Titans characters, but honestly I was really hoping for more even though it was still nice to see some of her powers develop on the page. I was also hoping Cyborg would get his own story but he's introduced here. Vic's just kind of there and no one seems at all surprised by his whole cyborg thing. No one even bats and eye! Oh well, I'm still looking forward to seeing what's coming finally in their team up with Teen Titans: Together which is due for release in the Fall of 2025.
A book where Kori doesn’t have a tragic ending AND gets together (by the looks of it) with Dick? It gets 5 stars just for that since DC is as stubborn as a mule.
But in all actuality, it was by far my favorite of the series. I’m of course biased since Kori Anders is easily one of my top 5 favorite characters in the universe, but this was everything I wanted it to be and more. I wish Vic got his own book, but I’m also so excited to get to the climax of this story.
I will not ever understand why DC doesn’t capitalize on the nostalgia and popularity of this team. A publishing house with a whole multiverse and it simply refuses to give people what they want: this group of Titans being happy and living their best lives. It sounds like the next book is the last one, and it is sad if that’s the case, but here’s to hoping Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo can work on this universe more.
This is probably more of a 3.5, which isn't bad. As always liked the art, the concept wss interesting and I really like Starfire as a concept. But for instance the conflict to set up her and Kira's estrangement kinda had me like 🙄🙄🙄. I could tell some differences were there in the beginning but it didn't connect for me to be 100% convinced. Also in any other universe I'd be all over the Dick x Kory pairing but here I kind of wanted it to be Kory x Vic (Cyborg) but we can't have everything I guess.
Also what do you mean there's no Cyborg book, wait WHAT DO YOU MEAN 😭😭😭
fell in love with Gabriel Picolo’s illustrations when I was a teenager and still love them now, many years later. absolutely would kiss the hand of the angel/mastermind at DC who gave Gabriel and Kami their own graphic novel series. 10/10
I love this series so much, and was so excited to see this new installment come out! So excited to see the gang coming together and getting ready to take on the world.
This was such an amazing addition to the series. I loved all the little similarities to the Teen Titans show, like Starfire picking up Japanese, the pier/ferris wheel scene, Kira and Kori fighting at a party.
I absolutely loved seeing Kori and Vic's friendship develop. And Dick falling in love with Kori at first sight was so sweet.
As someone with EDS, seeing that representation in Starfire was incredible. She's been one of my favourite superheroes since I was a kid and being able to relate to her even more was magical. I thought the explanation about EDS was perfect.
As always, Picolo's art was stunning. I really liked all the little details in the background like the stickers on Kori's wall. And the sunsets were beautiful too.
I can't wait to see the whole team in action next book!

Ahh I've been waiting so long for this book, and I'm so glad it didn't disappoint. As usual the artwork is amazing, the colouring is perfect, the Easter eggs were cute and the storyline was fun!
I really liked this introduction to Starfire, or Kori Anders, and her sister Blackfire, also known as Blackfire. Set in sunny California, the book follows the contrasting sisters as they discover their powers whilst being scouted for a mysterious research program by an organisation known as Edge. At the same time, the sisters are also introduced to an organisation known as HIVE that can 'help' them control their powers.
If you didn't guess, yes, both companies are bad news.
I really enjoyed the new take on Kori's origin story, whilst it wasn't what I expected nor do I know why it was changed, it still brought a fresh background for a beloved character, making her more human than alien- thought that was always the fun part of Starfire. I liked the EDS and chronic pain representation, it was done well and as someone who's got a chronic illness, I appreciated the inspiration and understanding.
The overall story is still progressing, Trigon is still loose and looking for Raven, and the titans are finally all together now, with Cyborg included! I also want to say how much I loved the meeting scene, the characters get along so nicely. I'm really excited to see how the finale plays out next Fall with the gang finally going after HIVE and dealing with Slade Wilson, who's still hellbent on capturing them.
I was *so* excited to get a review copy of this because I've been loving this series so far, and I was especially excited for Starfire's story. I really like what Kami Garcia did for Kori (Starfire) and Kira's (Blackfire) characterization - they both felt like grounded and real college girls who were dealing with a variety of challenges, both as sisters and individuals. As a chronically ill girlie myself, I was pleasantly surprised by the representation of Kori having Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (which is not something I experience, but is terribly underrepresented). That aspect of her life was incorporated very well, and in subtle ways that didn't feel forced at all.
Vic (Cyborg) was finally introduced in this one when Starfire meets him at H.I.V.E. Labs, but we just got a small glimpse into his story. I know that the next book in the series is going to be all of the Titans finally together, but I wish Cyborg would get his own book the way all of the other characters did. That being said, I'm still really excited to see what this series has been culminating to, and how all of the Titans interact with one another.
Thank you to DC Comics and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
First and foremost, I am still so in love with Gabriel Picolo's art style. I'm so happy that he is still doing this series, and he really brought Starfire and Cyborg to life for me. I loved the little nods to past iterations of the characters (the NASA shirt!!), but they were also still really fresh designs. I did also like the representation here with Starfire and the EDS - seeing a superhero dealing with something like that has to be so validating for anyone with chronic pain.
Beyond that, I think it's a good continuation of the series. It definitely felt a little rushed compared to the others, and it felt like they really just wanted to finish assembling the team, but I get it. I was ready for them to all be together, too! I only wished Cyborg had gotten his own book, because it did feel like he just got kind of lumped in with Starfire's story. Anyone who likes the previous issues of the story, or the Teen Titans in general, will love this addition!
I am a big fan of the Teen Titans, and Starfire has always been one of my favorites of that gang. I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I have some of the previous books in this series by Kami Garcia and have enjoyed them all. Her writing is great and the illustrations are wonderful. It was really interesting to read about a person with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). I knew nothing about this, but am wanting to find out more. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!
A big thanks to netGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Honestly, I only keep reading this series because I want to see how the characters are told compared to the childhood show I grew up with, you know, the one and only great Teen Titans. (Obviously, the one from 2003, duh.) Overall, though, this series is not memorable, nor much connection with characters. And the writing is cliche, overdone, and some panels are not well structured, plus could use a lot more panels to add depth and character development.
I love Damian, but this is the WORST version of him. It's so out of characters it's not him anymore. Damian being soft? Damian on a girl's lap? Damian saying his girlfriend deserves better? Damian doubting himself? Are you sure you didnt forget to introduce us who this character is? Becayse he is not Damian Wayne!
Surprising that I liked this adaptation the best when Starfire is my least favorite character. However, Cyborg is also introduced and the plot feels almost close to the teen titans I watched growing up. Plus, beautiful coloration in this novel.
