VISION OF R.E.A.D

To bring about equity in literacy education and resources for our learners', communities, and populations that face the greatest disparities in literacy. Learners that we serve, families, educators, and systems will be equipped with the literacy tools that they need to be proficient readers, produce proficient readers, close the achievement gap, close the poverty gap, and improve their quality of life.

Literacy Statistics

Learners who are not proficient in reading by 3rd grade are more likely to end up in prison, poverty, and have a decreased quality of life.

Currently, 45 million Americans are functionally illiterate, and cannot read above a fifth-grade reading level.

50% of children from low income /disadvantaged communities start first grade up to two years behind their peers.

The single most significant factor influencing a child's early educational success is an introduction to books, and being read to at home prior to beginning school.
